Connect Questrade to WealthWise
Questrade is one of the most established discount brokers in Canada — founded in 1999, around 250,000 active accounts. Its platform is powerful, but its built-in analytics interface stays limited if you want a real portfolio view (FIRE projection, sector allocation, projected dividends). That's where WealthWise picks up.
WealthWise connects to Questrade via SnapTrade, a Canadian aggregator specialized in broker connectivity. Your multi-currency positions (CAD and USD), transactions, dividends, and per-account balances sync automatically — no manual copy-paste required.
How to connect Questrade to WealthWise (5 steps)
- Create a free WealthWise account
Go to mywealthwise.ca and create your free account with email + password or via Google. No credit card needed. - Open Settings → Connected brokers
Once in the app, click the Settings icon (top right), then select the "Connected brokers" section. - Click Connect → Choose Questrade
Click "Connect a broker", select Questrade from the list. A SnapTrade OAuth popup opens and redirects you to Questrade's official portal. - Authorize WealthWise (read-only)
You sign in to Questrade as usual — your password is entered on questrade.com, not on WealthWise. Approve the read-only access request. - Sync your accounts
Back in WealthWise, your RRSP, TFSA, FHSA, margin, RESP, and RRIF accounts appear. Click "Sync" to import all your positions and full transaction history.
What the Questrade connection allows (and doesn't)
| Action | WealthWise via SnapTrade |
|---|---|
| See your current positions | Yes, updated daily |
| See transaction history | Yes, up to several years |
| See dividends received | Yes, with exact date and amount |
| Multi-currency ACB | Yes, automatic CAD/USD conversion |
| Sector analysis | Yes, heatmap + diversification |
| Monte Carlo FIRE projection | Yes, based on your real positions |
| Buy or sell assets | No — not our role, we're not a broker |
| Deposit or withdraw money | No — only at Questrade |
| Change your Questrade password | No — we never have access |
| Automatic rebalancing | No — for that, use Passiv (combines well with WealthWise) |
| Give personalized advice | No — consult a licensed advisor in your province |
Why this "read-only" positioning?
WealthWise is an analytics tool, not a broker or registered advisor. By staying read-only, we avoid any regulatory gray zone and your funds stay 100% at Questrade. You retain full control of your money. If you want to automate rebalancing, Passiv is complementary — many investors use both.
Security and privacy
SnapTrade is a Canadian aggregator (based in Toronto) that follows industry standards: end-to-end TLS encryption, short-lived OAuth 2.0 tokens, SOC 2 Type II audits. WealthWise stores your tokens encrypted in Supabase (database hosted in Montreal, compliant with Quebec's Law 25). No Questrade password ever transits through our servers.
You can revoke access at any time:
- From Questrade: My account → Authorized apps → SnapTrade → Remove access
- From WealthWise: Settings → Connected brokers → Disconnect Questrade
Revocation is instant. Your historical data remains in WealthWise (you can delete it independently).
Use case: Questrade + WealthWise
If you have multiple Questrade accounts (RRSP + TFSA + margin + USD), you know how much the consolidated view is missing: Questrade shows each account separately. WealthWise aggregates them all in one view, applies CAD/USD conversion with Bank of Canada historical rates on each transaction date, and finally gives you your real net worth at a glance. The sector heatmap also reveals hidden concentrations (e.g. too much US tech across multiple ETFs at once).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to connect Questrade to WealthWise?
Yes. The connection uses OAuth via SnapTrade, a regulated Canadian aggregator. WealthWise never sees your Questrade password and only receives an encrypted read-only token, revocable at any time.
Does WealthWise see my Questrade password?
No, never. You enter your credentials directly on Questrade's portal during the OAuth authorization. WealthWise only receives an API token, with no way to access your password.
Can WealthWise trade for me at Questrade?
No. Our token is read-only. WealthWise cannot buy, sell, deposit, or withdraw at Questrade. We are not registered as a broker with your provincial securities regulator.
Which Questrade accounts are synced?
All your Questrade accounts: RRSP, TFSA, FHSA, margin, RESP, RRIF, corporate accounts, and USD accounts. Options and ETFs are imported correctly.
What happens if I revoke access?
Your historical data remains in WealthWise (you can delete it in Settings). No new sync happens after revocation. Revocation is done from Questrade (My account → Authorized apps) or from WealthWise.
How often does the data sync?
One automatic sync per day is included in the free plan. Essential offers 4 syncs per day, Premium unlimited. You can also trigger a manual sync at any time.
Is connecting Questrade free?
Yes. The WealthWise free plan includes connecting one broker and one daily sync. No card required.
Which broker will be supported next?
Interactive Brokers (IBKR) is being integrated and will be available in Q3 2026. RBC Direct, BMO InvestorLine, TD Direct, and National Bank Direct follow in Q4 2026.
